There are several insights that were gained from learning and analyzing the Da Vinci painting, The Last Supper. These insights are valuable and applicable in several key areas in my career. To begin with, this work of art provides a historical and cultural context. This is in the sense that it was created during the Renaissance period. Motta et al. (2021) wrote that this was a time of great creativity and innovation in art, science, and culture in particular Europe. From the point of view of an arts student, this cultural and historical context is beneficial in helping learners understand the development of human thought and achievement and appreciate the importance of innovation and creativity in human progress. Secondly, this particular work of art has a massive religious significance. Da Vinci depicted the last supper of Jesus Christ with his apostles before his crucifixion. This perspective of a religious context provides quality insights into the importance of faith and spirituality in people’s lives and the role of religious art in conveying important messages and meanings. In addition to this, the painting by Da Vinci is a renowned masterpiece reflecting the artists outstanding skills in painting. Importantly, this work employs key elements of visual art such as composition, perspective, and use of light and shadow. The rationale for applying these elements of visual art help in demonstrating the importance of mastery, attention to detail, and the pursuit of excellence of the artist. What’s more, learning about The Last Supper provides audiences with historical, cultural, spiritual, and artistic insights that enrich their comprehension of the world. My choice for selecting the Da Vinci painting was influenced by a number of key factors. One, of this is literature. Farazmand, Nasri and Sharifzadeh (2021) intimated that in literature, the theme of the Last Supper is a common one since ancient times, appearing in the Bible, the Gospels, and other religious texts. I am personally fond of reading religious texts and the choice for picking this particular painting stemmed from this. A close analysis about the life and times of Leonardo da Vinci reveals that he was familiar with religious texts and their interpretations. Given this, he was influenced by the works of Dante and Petrarch whose main areas of focus were the importance of the Eucharist in Christian theology. This painting places emphasis on the solemnity and gravity of the occasion by showing the apostles in various states of emotional turmoil. Two, philosophy, like literature, played a role in selecting this painting. Motta et al. (2021) noted that Da Vinci was part of the Renaissance movement and placed great emphasis on the importance of human reason and intellect. Drawing from this, the philosophy is reflected in the composition of the painting as it is very carefully and methodically arranged to highlight the interactions between the figures. On close inspection, the central figure of this painting is one Jesus Christ who is evidently being flanked by his disciples depicted in groups of three. From a philosophical perspective, I feel that the composition reflects the idea of order and balance – a key tenet of Renaissance philosophy. Environmental Science And Pollution Research Essay

As we learned in Week 1, there is a difference between being educated and simply trained. The purpose of education is not only to determine what someone can do, but also what kind of person they become as a result of their education.
