Cardiovascular diseases is the leading cause of death in the united states of America causing over 700,000 deaths per annum. Globally, it is the leading cause of death in all age groups. Myocardial infarction of the main cause of sudden death in patients with cardiovascular diseases (Fuchs & Whelton, 2020). Heart failure affects both males and females. However, the prevalence increases with age and is common in younger men and more in women in the post-menopause state. The risk factors for heart disease are hypertension, physical inactivity, smoking, dyslipidemia, glucose intolerance, and obesity. The non-modifiable factors are family history of cardiovascular diseases, age, and gender.

Heart disease is common in patients with low social economic status, low education levels, and poor access to healthcare services. According to the American heart association, socially economically disadvantaged groups have greater exposure to cardiovascular disease risk factors such as obesity, dyslipidemia, diabetes mellitus, and hypertension due to poor working and living conditions. Poor education level reduces the ability to understand the impact of disease on the body and its treatment leading to poor health outcomes (Powell-Wiley et al., 2022). Other social determinants affecting health practices in heart diseases are environmental or community practices such as the use of harmful herbs that increase the risk of heart diseases. Additionally, some cultures and religions inhibit seeking medical attention because of their beliefs.

Heart failure is a chronic disease associated with lifestyle changes. It is prevalent in modern society due to a sedentary lifestyle. Patients living with hypertension, obesity, dyslipidemia, and diabetes mellitus should adopt a healthy lifestyle to reduce complications of heart disease. Examples of healthy practices for the patients at risk include physical exercise, intake of healthy food such as vegetables and whole meals, and attending follow-up clinics to monitor the progress of the symptoms (Li, Y., Schoufour et al., 2022). The general population and those at risk should be physically active, manage stress appropriately, keep track of symptoms, get adequate rest, and stop habits such as smoking, alcohol consumption, and use of injectable drugs. The dysfunctional health practices are smoking, a sedentary lifestyle, and consumption of alcohol.

Required Education for Health Promotion
Health education increases awareness among the patient and their primary caregivers. Education helps in improving the outcome of the disease because it stimulates change of behavior and close monitoring of the symptoms. The education includes the symptoms of the disease, the risk factors, treatment, and complications. The care provider should educate the patient on daily monitoring of the symptoms and vitals to detect decompensation of the heart (Fuchs & Whelton, 2020). Additionally, education helps in the change of behaviors and recommends other self-care strategies.
