The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism Assignment
Discussion One
Family nurse practitioners encounter patients who present various clinical manifestations to the clinic. The scenario concerns a 50yo male who has visited the clinic for his annual physical examination. During clinical assessment, the client reported reduced libido and urinary frequency. This discussion focuses on how the nurse practitioner would approach presented complaints, planned care actions, and resources supporting suggested diagnostics. The nurse practitioner would address the issue by considering the most likely diagnosis based on the presented symptoms. During the clinical interview, the client reported reduced libido and urinary frequency. Based on these clinical symptoms, the client’s most likely diagnosis is lower urinary tract (UTI). In male adults, UTI is characterized by increased urination frequency and urgency, pain with urination, dark cloud and foul-smelling urine, and abdominal pain (Smithson et al., 2019). The client reported urinary frequency, qualifying for this diagnosis. The client also reported decreased libido, a significant symptom of sexual dysfunction in males. Bala et al. (2018) reported that sexual dysfunction in males is characterized by a lack of sexual drive, low libido, and decreased sexual desire. Therefore, the client qualifies to be diagnosed with sexual dysfunction. The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism Assignment

The nurse practitioner would adhere to the established diagnostic guidelines in the client’s planned care. First, the nurse practitioner would collect subjective and objective data. Subjective data would be collected by asking the client several questions, including abdominal pain, increased urination urgency, pain with urination, decreased sexual drive, or decreased sexual desire. On the hand, objective data would be collected through physical exams and diagnostics. For instance, the clinician would conduct a pelvic exam to assess tenderness in the lower abdomen. The second action involves setting treatment objects, such as reducing the client’s symptoms. The next action is prescribing the most appropriate treatment regimen to the client. The client should be prescribed oral antibiotics for their efficacy in treating UTI symptoms in males (Farrell et al., 2021). Specifically, a ciprofloxacin 750mg tablet twice daily is recommended for this client. Additionally, the client should be prescribed Vardenafil 10 mg orally once to increase his libido. This drug is preferred due to its efficacy in improving sexual function in males with sexual dysfunction (Melehan et al., 2018). The last action is evaluation, which aims to assess prescribed medications’ efficacy in managing presented symptoms. The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism Assignment
