This AE6005 report asks student groups to plan a 10-year base-maintenance solution for an Airbus A320 fleet using the operator scenario on Canvas (an AMO operator information workbook is provided). The focus is on project planning: decomposing the work into tasks, scheduling it, and setting out communication and risk management. Individual marks are weighted using each student’s self-reflection and logbook.
Purpose of the Assessment
Prepare a planning report that proposes a 10-year base-maintenance solution for the scenario provided on Canvas. The planning report should identify the tasks required to:
- Determine the aircraft’s maintenance requirements for the Airbus A320 fleet provided.
- Evaluate the available maintenance options.
- Assess the facilities, equipment, personnel and other resources available at the hubs, bases and destination airports.
- Consider a range of maintenance strategies, including in-house provision, outsourcing and combinations of both.
Planning Report Content
- A draft introduction for the final project report, including a scenario that sets the scene and explains why the project is being done, a statement of the project aim(s) and a statement of the project objectives.
- The tabulated task list produced during the planning process.
- An activity-on-node network diagram or a Gantt chart with clear task allocation.
- A communication plan.
- A risk register.
Individual Submission
Every student submits a 300-word self-reflection report that explicitly outlines their personal contribution to the group planning report, together with a digital logbook containing enough journal entries to evidence the level and nature of their contribution.
Learning Outcomes
- Understand the project planning process and be able to decompose a project and produce a comprehensive plan for its completion (AHEP4 B1, B4, B9, B10).
- Work effectively as a team member and as an individual to achieve given goals in fixed timeframes, and work independently on self-improvement (B16, B18).
Marking Criteria
| Criterion | Marks | AHEP4 |
| Introduction, aim(s), objectives and deliverables | 20 | B1 |
| Task list and Gantt chart / network diagram | 40 | B1, B4 |
| Communication plan | 10 | B16 |
| Risk register | 15 | B9, B10 |
| Summary | 5 | B18 |
| Readability (coherence, headings, schematics and diagrams/flowcharts) | 10 | – |
| Total | 100% |
First-class work presents a logically sequenced, justified task list and a schedule that accurately shows dependencies, durations, milestones and responsibilities, a practical communication plan covering stakeholders, methods, frequency and outputs, and a risk register with realistic likelihood and impact ratings, owners, triggers and contingency responses. A word count must be stated, and mitigating circumstances and academic integrity guidance is on MyKingston.
