For the final writing assignment, assume you are a project manager working for a residential contractor that has been awarded a contract to build a single-story single-family home. You are responsible for reviewing the plans and making suggestions on how you might improve the energy performance and sealing of the building’s envelope. The location of the house is in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Assume the average temperature in the winter is 30 degrees Fahrenheit and the average year-round rainfall is 38 inches.  

Develop a list of items you suggest be incorporated into the design of the building’s envelope to enhance the energy performance and mitigate snow and rain from penetrating the envelope and reaching the interior space of the building. Consider the following envelope components: roof system, wall system, openings. What type of envelope components would be ideal for this project and why? What building codes have you considered and how might these impact your decisions? Include any other assumptions and recommendations on how to improve the efficiency of this structure.   

Your completed assignment must include:  

• an APA 7 formatted reference page that includes each resource (min of 3 scholarly resources) you used to complete this assignment, including your textbook;  
• APA 7 formatted in-text citations for each direct quote or paraphrase from a resource 
• 2 pages of meaningful content, not including the title page and reference page

This assignment is due in Week 4. Students will submit the assignment to Smarthinking prior to upload for final grading.
