Assignment: Live AI Debate & Transcript
Purpose
This Week 9 assignment gives you the chance to practice constructing, presenting, and defending a formal argument by engaging in a live written debate with an AI tool. You will apply the research, mapping, and argument-building skills you’ve developed over Weeks 7 and 8.
What You’ll Do
- Prepare Your Debate Prompt
-
- Use the Week 9 Resource Guide: Setting Up Your AI Debate Prompt to create your one-paragraph debate prompt.
- Your prompt must include:
-
-
- The AI’s role (your opponent)
- Your claim and position statement
- Debate expectations (how you want the AI to respond)
- A reminder for staying on track
-
By the time you start your debate, you should have a fully constructed prompt ready to paste into the AI tool. This should be the FIRST item you submit to the AI tool.
- Engage in the Debate
-
- Paste your prompt into the AI tool to begin. We recommend using ChatGPTLinks to an external site. as your AI tool for ease of access. You can use this resource for free.
- Follow the format you outlined:
-
-
- The AI gives one counterargument (3–5 sentences).
- You respond with your rebuttal.
- The AI replies again with another counterargument.
- Continue for at least 10 full rounds (AI → You → AI → You, etc. Until you have ten total exchanges).
-
-
- Stay focused on your position. If the AI strays, remind it of its role.
- Save Your Debate Transcript
-
- When you finish the debate, you will need to save a copy of your conversation. You can do this by copying and pasting your entire conversation into a Word document.
- Double-check that your document transcript includes both your writing and the AI’s responses before closing your window.
- Submit Your Debate Transcript

FEEDBACK FROM WEEK 7:
You have done some great work here! You seem to have three solid sources here. You summarize them clearly and discuss their purposes. However, you need to address their biases for each source. To help with this, try to first explain why the article is biased. Each source has some kind of bias – evaluate this and discuss it. For APA, your citations are excellent. You also chose some strong quotes and provide solid APA citations.
For the last part, we need more for the application of argument. Make sure to really explain how this information will be used to support your argument. You have a sentence but it is short and without explanation.
FEEDBACK FROM WEEK 8:
Really great work here. This idea regarding universal basic income is really interesting and I learned a lot from you here. Your background and information section is very clear and unbiased, as you build up to your argument regarding this.
Your argument points are great! But make sure to add citations for your direct quotes (last name, year, page number).
Solid conclusion!
