And oftentimes, through social media channels, individuals observe these attitudes, behaviors, and images of others and imagine what it would be like to try these on for themselves.
Ensuring one’s impression of him or herself can be important in one’s career progression. Digital tools provide a very controlled space in which people can explore, express, and edit their sense of self.
Imagine you are a social media specialist for a public relations firm and have been selected to help an individual improve their online impression to get their dream job.
Select an individual who you are somewhat familiar with either in your personal or professional circle that has both a LinkedIn profile and Facebook or Instagram account. If you don’t have someone, select a celebrity, a famous athlete, a famous CEO, or a Shark from Shark Tank… (I plan to look up the individual and should be able to look up the individual-this is not someone you make up)
Write a 1,150- to 1,250-word “memo” in which you do all of the following:
- Identify the individual you will be coaching to improve their online impression to get their dream job.
- Review their social media profiles (LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram) & present findings.
- Identify what you believe the image that individual is currently trying to portray.
- Explain how social media can help create their identity.
- Identify examples of where this individual is acting out a particular personality online (give at least 2).
- Identify examples of where this individual engages in impression management on their social platforms (give at least 2).
- Explain how their engagement with others on social platforms impacts their identity. Provide min. of 3 examples.
- Discuss how LinkedIn, Facebook, or Instagram provide a very controlled space in which people can explore, express, and edit their sense of self.
- Recommend how this individual could use technology to improve their image to obtain their dream job.
Aside from incorporating information from their social media & citing/referencing accordingly, please incorporate information from and cite/reference at least 2 other sources to support your assignment, per APA guidelines. So, 2 sources NOT including their social media accounts/profiles, which should automatically be cited and included within your references (look up APA format for citing/referencing social media accounts).
