Unit Aims

The aim of this unit is to develop learners’ understanding of strategic and change management models, as well as the ability to review strategic plans, to propose strategic options, to create implementation plans and to lead organisational changes.

2.3 Evaluate strategic options for an organisation.

3.  Be able to evaluate various tools and approaches to a strategy implementation plan. 3.1 Create a relevant vision, mission and strategic goals for an organisation.

3.2 Propose a suitable structure for an organisation that fits a strategic plan.

3.3 Create a resourced strategy implementation plan.

4. Be able to develop and implement a strategic organisational change management plan. 4.1 Apply force field analysis to effectively distinguish forces of change.

4.2 Critically evaluate various change management models.

4.3 Identify relevant leadership and change agent skills to implement a strategic change in an organisation.

5. Be able to monitor and control the implementation of strategic plans. 5.1 Develop a monitoring and control system for the implementation of strategic plans.

You will need to prepare a presentation, a report and reflective essay to show your understanding of strategic and change management.

Task 1 – Business Presentation (AC 1.1, 1.2, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3)

Instructions:

Choose a multinational company operating in a specific country. You are required to prepare a presentation with speaker notes critically evaluating the strategic plans of your chosen MNC  organisation and propose strategic options.

You are advised to check with your tutor that your choice is appropriate.

Your presentation is to be made to the board of directors and you should:

  • Critically evaluate the position of an organization in its chosen country /current market.
  • Critically analyse the effects of existing plans on an organisation.
  • Critically explore the relationship between, corporate, business and operational strategies.
  • Apply strategic models and tools to develop strategic options for an organisation.
  • Evaluate strategic options for an organisation.
  • Present a  SWOT  table  (or  equivalent)  and  critically  evaluate  the  organisations  current strategic position.

Delivery and Submission

  • 1x Presentation file (including references) 1x Speaker notes (500 words)

Task 2 – Report (AC 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 4.1, 5.1. 5.2, 5.3, 5.4)

Instructions:

Following your presentation, you should now prepare a new strategic plan in a report format for the same chosen MNC operating in a specific chosen country:

Your report should:

  • Create a relevant vision, mission and strategic goals for an organisation.
  • Propose a suitable structure for an organisation that fits a strategic plan.
  • Create a resourced strategy implementation plan.
  • Apply force field analysis to effectively distinguish forces of change.
  • Develop a monitoring and control system for the implementation of strategic plans. Design key success indicators in order to monitor the implementation of the strategic plan.
  • Distinguish potential risks during implementation.
  • Review the effectiveness of the strategic plan.

Delivery and submission:

  • 1x Report excluding TOC, diagrams, references and appendices (2000 words)

Task 3– Reflective Essay (AC 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 4.2, 4.3, 4.4, )

Instructions:

Write a reflective essay to critically evaluate  the  usefulness  of  change management models and  recommend one  specific  model  to  support  the  strategic  option  identified  in Task 2. You should also explain how you could be a change agent and identify the leadership and change agent skills you would need to display in order to make changes successful.

You should refer to the Indicative Content in the specification to help form your answer.

  • 1x Reflective Essay (2000 words)
