The Essential Guide to ELEE0052 Chebyshev Bandpass Filter

2 min read

ELEE0052 Assessment Brief

Assessment Type : Coursework

Analyse, design, implement, and simulate a three–pole Chebyshev bandpass filter which is based on the standard normalised lowpass prototype filter shown in Figure 1. Assume a characteristic impedance of 50 Ω and use your assigned individual design specifications given in Table 1. You may employ any EDA software (e.g., ADS, EMFPro, Genesys, CST Microwave Studio, AWR Microwave Office, Sonnet Suits, HFWorks, etc.) for your design simulation.

g₀ = g₄ = 1.0   |
g₁ = g₃ = 0.8516   |
g₂ = 1.1032

Deliverables

Prepare a poster presenting your design, implementation, and simulation results. The poster should:

a) capture the relevant equations used in your design,

b) include the design circuit model with all J-inverters replaced with capacitor-only or inductor-only networks,

c) include the microstrip half-wavelength resonator implementation of the design using Rogers RT/Duroid 6010LM substrate (dielectric constant = 10.7, thickness = 1.27 mm, loss tangent = 0.0023, and top/bottom copper cladding = 35 μm),

d) the graphical comparison of your schematic and electromagnetic simulation results from (b) and (c), respectively.

Submission

Submit your poster via the submission link available on the ELEE0052 Moodle page on/before the deadline stated above. A sample poster can be accessed using the link included in the useful references. Your poster should contain the following sections:

  • abstract (not more than 60 words)
  • introduction (brief theory and background)
  • procedure (design and implementation)
  • findings (results, discussion, and comparison)
  • conclusion (not more than 60 words)
  • reference list (use IEEE style)

Assessment Criteria

This coursework contributes 40% of the total module mark.
You will be assessed on the following:

  • Abstract (10%)
  • Introduction (10%)
  • Procedure (30%)
  • Findings (30%)
  • Conclusion (10%)
  • Reference list (5%)
  • Overall poster quality (5%)
