Education is filled with terms and acronyms that can be confusing for new teachers and parents/guardians, particularly those that are unfamiliar with special education. The ability to clearly explain and provide examples of these terms is crucial for providing specially designed instruction to meet the needs of students with exceptionalities.
Using a digital tool such as Padlet, Trello, Canva, StoryboardThat, etc. create a digital resource you can share with new teachers, paraprofessionals, and parents/guardians to provide clear definitions and relevant examples related to each term.
Create a section in your digital deliverable for each of the terms listed below:
Interventions
Differentiation
Accommodations
Adaptations
Modifications
Specially Designed Instruction (SDI)
For each of the terms, address the following:
Provide a definition of each term written in your own words.
Describe the specific students to whom each term would typically apply (i.e., explain who can receive accommodations, adaptations, etc.). Reference the “IDEA Disability Categories” and “Specific Learning Disabilities” topic Resources to ensure you are using appropriate language and terminology.
Provide three examples of each term (i.e., list three examples of accommodations).
List a website, article, blog post, training resource, etc. that provides additional information about the term. Include the title, a 1-2 sentence description/summary, and the link.
List specific high-leverage practices (HLPs) and/or evidence-based practices (EBPs) associated with each term. Include the title of the practice, a 1-2 sentence description/summary, and the website link to each associated HLP and/or EBP.
Support the assignment with a minimum of three scholarly resources.
Submit the link to the digital resource and scholarly resources in a Word document.
While APA Style is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and documentation of sources should be presented using APA formatting guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.
