You might also want to check the DSM-5-TR Clinical Cases text that is available in ebooks for case studies that might help you illustrate diagnoses.
Plan on a Power Point or other presentation for your chosen topics to address:
1. BRIEF Epidemiology/Etiology/Prevalence/Incidence/Course of disease – most important tips for what to consider when diagnosing
2. BRIEF Neurotransmitters involved, genetic issues, and pathophysiology of the disease
3. Identify relevant gender, cultural, and ethnicity issues to be considered in diagnosis.
4. Review of decision tree/Review of DSM-5 Criteria: Diagnostic Features/Associated features
5. Risk/Prognostic Features
6. Differential Diagnoses/comorbidity/focus on medical problems
7. BRIEF Medical assessment and Laboratory testing
8. How to Assess and Screening Tools to distribute/psychological testing necessary
9. BRIEF discussion of treatment guidelines
10. Be sure to consider aspects of cognition, affect, and behavior that relate to the diagnosis
Place emphasis on bolded items. The point is to share the information needed to accurately diagnose clients.
Note that each category represents multiple diagnoses as listed by the DSM5. The presentation should summarize the differences between the diagnoses within the category and should focus on differentiating the diagnoses within that category as well as without (e.g., different types of depression within category; differences between depression and bipolar disorders across categories).
